Gaza militants welcome Obama to Israel: Thought leadership

Underscoring the Palestinian problem and threat to Israel, Gaza militants weighed in with a rocket attack. Think about this situation. Palestine has a government and police force as well as military. The government has lost control or never had it as militants are armed with high powered military-style weapons including rockets.

Bastions of Islamic radicals populate neighboring states, similarly equipped and sometimes better. Nations like Iran continue to send or smuggle in arms to these places as a back door menace to Israel.

The demilitarization of Palestine should be a first step toward any peace negotiations.

Palestinians are a distributed population of Arabs living in the vicinity of Israel in areas that are economically unsustainable as isolated enclaves. The notion of Palestinian statehood is ridiculous in light of that circumstance alone.

Thought leadership

A solution for Palestinians would be to collaborate with Israel to bring about an integrated community under Israeli law and with Arab citizens participating in a democratically elected government. The transformation from as-is to the to-be state might be sector by sector on merit that begins with disarmament and security much like the idea that Americans had in securing Afghanistan and Iraq. The difference is that Israeli government provides a much more mature foundation.

That is a win-in, in the end, if there can only be a beginning.

Israeli police say no injuries have been reported after two rockets slammed into an Israel-Gaza border town during President Obama's first visit to the country.

A police spokesperson tells Fox News one of the qassam rockets landed in a yard of a home in the city of Sderot in Southern Israel and authorities are searching for the other, which they suspect landed in an open field.

Obama was miles away in Jerusalem at the time, preparing to visit the Israel Museum, where he inspected the Dead Sea Scrolls, which highlight the Jewish people's ancient connection to the land that is now Israel. Obama arrived in the West Bank city of Ramallah for talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at around 11 a.m. local time.”
