What to see and do at National Harbor and the Potomac River Waterfront

Whether guests are spending the night or just visiting for the day, the Gaylord National is an attraction in its own right. The 19-story glass-enclosed atrium is a wonderland of blooming plants, water fountains and fun for the whole family. Every Christmas season, the Gaylord puts on the ever popular and fashionably frozen ICE! extravaganza. Past themes have included "The Grinch," "Shrek" and "Twas the Night Before Christmas," all in clear, colored and LED-lit blocks of expertly carved ice.

The Gaylord National, which is part of the Marriott family, sits along National Harbor on the Potomac River. A variety of restaurants and shops (including a PEEPS store!) are within walking distance. Festivals and music events are held throughout the year along the harbor front.

Don’t miss the harbor’s recently added Capital Wheel. Similar to the London Eye, the Capital Wheel has 42 closed, climate-controlled gondolas that give guests a bird’s eye view from 180 feet in the sky. Eight passengers per gondola are able to view the White House, the Washington Monument, the Capitol, the National Mall and many other sites in the D.C./Maryland Potomac River region.
