On Wednesday evening, January 8th, The American Fertility Association and California Cryobank will host an event for hopeful lesbian moms on conception and pregnancy. The Gay Women's Gathering will take place at the Brooklyn Community Pride Center, located at 4 MetroTech, in the downtown Brooklyn area. The event begins at 6:00 p.m.
Attendees will learn about choosing a sperm donor, getting pregnant at home or in the doctor's office and the legal in's and out's from faculty members Melissa Brisman, Esq., Diana Chavkin, M.D. of Genesis Fertility & Reproductive Medicine and Scott Brown of California Cryobank.
Guidelines for working with sperm banks will be discussed. Information will include:
- Sperm donor testing and why cryopreserved may be better than fresh
- Sperm bank licensing
- Sperm donor history and screening
- Sibling donor groups
The differences between at-home insemination or insemination and in vitro fertilization at the doctor's office will be examined from medical and legal perspectives, and information about fertility testing and preservation will be examined.
A light dinner and educational materials will be provided to all participants.
