After several gun tragedies in the United States last year, several politicians want to take away our right to have guns. Even though the LGBT community is a huge target of gun violence, most of them -- at least online -- support laws that will disable our community from carrying guns to protect ourselves.
I am hoping that this is due to ignorance more than rational thinking. Gay men have been targeted by guns several times in the past year. Perhaps many of those gay men could have been saved if they had guns to defend themselves. Several of my gay readers tell me that they carry guns with them at all times, whether it is against the law or not.
"With all the anti-gay propaganda coming from news outlets like Fox News," how can I not be expected to carry a gun with me?"one of my readers, who obviously doesn't want his name published, asks me. How can you not agree with him?
