It is something that has (supposedly) been part of society since the beginning of time, and it is a question that is at the forefront of political debates to this very day. Should gay marriage be legal or not? Well, I am here to answer this once and for all. After years of research, study, thinking and praying on this issue, I have finally arrived at the most profound, earth-shattering conclusion, and I am going to let you in on it. But first, I want to look at the positions that are presently taken on it.
The first is that it's disgusting, and it's against God's law. Well, I cannot agree more, but guess what? I do not have to worry about THAT because I am not gay. I am married to the most wonderful woman I have ever known, and we have a happy family that we plan to add more members to in the near future.
The next position is that it is incumbent on us, as a society, to recognize that gay marriage should be a legal option for those who choose to engage in it. Well, I cannot agree more, much to the chagrin of the aforementioned wife, who is most decidedly not a fan of homosexuals.
So, what gives? Why the seeming disparity in my views? The conclusion I have come to is that this is NOT an issue that needs to be a question for our state or federal legislatures. It is a question that is best decided and dealt with on the level where it IS SUPPOSED TO BE ANYWAY. Marriage is a RELIGIOUS institution. Why is the federal government involved in deciding who can and who cannot get married? I am completely stymied by this thinking. Liberals constantly scream about "separation of church and state." And yet, when it comes to this issue, they do not seem to see the hypocrisy of their stance and they bemoan the federal government's (WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE A REFLECTION OF OUR VALUES AS A SOCIETY) unwillingness to recognize the union of two men or two women. Or any combination or number thereof. Or include animals. Or dolls.
Seriously?!?! Come on folks. It's way past time we all grew up. We need to make time to be more aware of the issues our elected representatives are considering, and we MUST start actually thinking about those issues and decide, for ourselves, whether they are actually things that need to be bandied about in congressional debates.
Is the government granting us the right to get married? I thought it was a union between two people before GOD, not POTUS. Does the government have the right to grant ANYTHING to us? Or is it "WE THE PEOPLE" who should be granting the government their rights? Before you respond, THINK about what I have said.
Do I have the right to tell you that you cannot marry the person you love, no matter who it may be? If you say no, but you support the government recognition of gay marriage, then ask yourself this question: why are you asking me to give you the right to marry the person you love?
If 51% of the American population thinks gay marriage is wrong (and I am not saying it does, I am just using that as an example), does that mean that gay people will suddenly come to the conclusion that they are "wrong"? I doubt it. More likely, they will simply do what any other person in America has the right to do...WHATEVER THEY LIKE!
As I said before, I am not gay, and I do not agree with the gay lifestyle. However, I DO NOT believe that it is my right to tell anyone who they can or cannot love or marry. I believe that right exists solely within the purview of the Almighty God in Heaven. If you are gay and you see fit to start up a church and say that gay people are allowed to marry there, then by all means DO IT.
I am completely for the removal of the marriage "tax break" in the tax structure, which is the whole reason for this stupid, inane debate anyway. I not only support removing this part of the tax code, I support the complete overhaul of the tax system, which should include eliminating the entire structure as it presently stands and moving to a system where the government subsists off taxes of no more than 10% on goods sold in stores, which would necessitate a severe downsizing of the whole federal system. A system made up of institutions which have shown an increasingly dire ability and deliberate capacity to tell us what we are allowed to do in our own country, states, homes and lives.
Will you wake up and "smell-el-el what the Rock is cookin'" before WE grant the government the right to grant US the right to life? You can act like that is a ridiculous thought, but we are asking the government to grant us the right to marry, and the right to kill our children....do you REALLY think the right to life is that far behind?
