Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton isn’t just an online personality. He is also a single gay dad. According to the Hollywood Reporter on December 4, Hilton is teaming with Bunim/Murray Productions on a new unscripted series on gay fatherhood.
The reality series will be based in New York and will follow Hilton’s adventures as both a gay dad and a single dad. Bunim/Murray Productions, which has also produced “The Real Word” and “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”, is still casting for the series, which will not only follow Hilton, but also tap into the world of other dads, single and married as they support each other and share the highs and lows of raising children.
Bunim/Murray chairman Jonathan Murray said he jumped on the idea of the series immediately because he and his partner were part of the first gay dads support groups back in 1998 and knows first hand what these dads are experiencing.
“Whether it’s a single dad like Perez, or married gay dads, becoming a gay parent affects your relationships with family and friends, all of which will make fascinating stories,” says Murray.
It will also be a timely series, as gay parenting has become a focal point in adoption throughout the country and the world. The show will hopefully steer away from some negative perceptions and highlight that parenting is parenting no matter the family structure. Perez, now working on his fourth reality series, is honored to be apart of the project and promises it will eliminate the trashy from reality.
“What is your typical American family like? These days, it looks a lot like mine! I am honored and excited to bring to television a show that will be filled with love, humor and drama. What will it not be? Trashy or boring! I am thrilled to have partnered with the leaders and innovators of reality television, Bunim/Murray, to create a program that is compelling and real.”
