Gaudreau named Hobey Baker finalist

According to Zack Cox of NESN Sports, Calgary Flames prospect John Gaudreau was named a Hobey Baker Award finalist on Wednesday.

Gaudreau, who plays for Boston College at the NCAA Division I level, is one of three finalists who is considered for the best men's hockey player in United States interuniversity athletics.

The other nominees are Greg Carey of St. Lawrence University and Nic Dowd of St. Cloud State.

This season Gaudreau had 35 goals and 42 assists for 77 points and was named the Hockey East player of the year. Gaudreau was the Flames' fourth round pick, 104th overall in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The winner will be announced on Monday evening in Philadelphia. Mike Mottau was the last player from Boston College to win the Hobey Baker Award in the year 2000. Interestingly, Mottau went on to play four regular season games with the Calgary Flames in the 2002-03 season.
