Gaudreau leads USA to quarterfinals at World Juniors

According to TSN, Calgary Flames' draft pick John Gaudreau of Boston College led the United States in scoring Monday at the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ufa, Russia.

Gaudreau had two goals and an assist in helping the United States to a commanding 9-3 victory over Slovakia. With the win, the USA advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious holiday season hockey tournament with a record of 2-2.

Gaudreau was one of two Americans to score two goals and an assist, with Vince Trocheck of the Saginaw Spirit also having the same offensive statistics.

Gaudreau, the Flames' fourth pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, scored his first goal of the hockey game at the nine minute mark of the first period from Shayne Gostisbehere and Jim Vesey to put the United States up 3-1. Goudreau then scored on the power play at 4:55 of the second period from Trocheck and Jake McCabe to put the Americans up 6-2.

The United States, who failed to qualify for the medal round of the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship in Calgary, will now play the Czech Republic on Wednesday in the quarterfinals at 2:00 a.m. mountain time.
