According to the Canadian Curling Association, Paralympic gold medallist Sonja Gaudet of Vernon, British Columbia has been inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Gaudet was the Team Canada lead that won the Paralympic gold medal in curling at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy and then again at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Gaudet was also the lead for Team Canada when they won the World Wheelchair Championships in Prague, Czech Republic in 2011 and in Sochi, Russia in 2013. Due to her outstanding recent success, she is likely to participate for Canada at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Gaudet, who became a paraplegic after a horse riding accident in 1997, has also been credited for inventing a piece of equipment called a balance post, which is attached to her wheelchair and allows her to change the delivery of the stone and sit up straight.
Gaudet was joined by 1998 Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Cathy King of Edmonton.
