Gators face a must-win situation against Auburn

If series history is any indicator, the Gators should have little trouble dispatching Auburn in the first round of the SEC Tournament tonight in Nashville. The Gators have won 11 of the last 12 times the two schools have met, including a 78-70 win at home in the middle of February.

The lone win for the Tigers in that 12 game stretch was during last year's SEC Tournament, a three-point triumph that sealed the Gator's NIT fate. Auburn has a chance to do the same this year.

Without a win tonight, there is a very slim chance of the Gators making the cut for the NCAA field of 65. A win, however, sets up a game against Mississippi State, and may in itself put the Gators into the NCAA Tournament.

Despite losing to the SEC's two best teams in the final week of the season, the Gators have played well recently, out-rebounding both Vanderbilt and a much taller Kentucky team during those two losses.

Both Chandler Parsons and Vernon Macklin have come on strong for Florida in the past month. Parson's has reached double digits in scoring in seven of the last nine games, while Macklin has hit that mark in five of the last seven.

Should the Gators win tonight and defeat Mississippi State tomorrow, they would be a virtual lock to make the tournament. The SEC Network will be airing tonight's game, which tips-off at 7:30.

Too bad that the SEC first round basketball games are not getting carried on any of the ESPNs or national TV. Gotta hope and think the Gators will win today, Vegas odds have them a 5 point favorite. Go Gators!!!
