Summer is here! Time for get-togethers of all sorts; from a bbq in your own backyard to a fun event out in your community. This Saturday, June 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., plan to attend a free community event to bring kids of all abilities together to enjoy the new, inclusive playground at Groveland Elementary School in Minnetonka.
The event is organized to allow for unstructured play but will include a number of themed activities for children to choose including access to a volunteer doing face painting. There will also be other volunteers on hand to help and the school building will be open so that accessible bathrooms will be available.
The event welcomes kids of all ages and is geared towards all families, particularly families who have a child with special needs as the play structures build were designed with them in mind. So, while the children play and explore, their grownups can network and connect as well.
Snacks will be provided by event sponsors and will include healthy snacks such as fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels, and cookies from Great Harvest Bread Co. with beverages to include water for the kids and Caribou Coffee for the adults. This community event is a great way for families to meet, connect, and share as well as to help build more awareness and acceptance within the community for individuals who have disabilities. Future events are also planned for July 23 and August 27. These gatherings are sponsored by several companies including Landscape Structures, Shane's Inspiration, Groveland Elementary, Groveland PTA, Great Harvest Bread, GB Kids, Bruegger's Bagels, and Foss Swim School.
RSVPs are requested at MNkidsplay@gmail.com or by contacting Mary Hauff at 612-423-2795. Plan to bring the whole family for the first event of the summer at this great, new, inclusive play area and save the dates for July and August as well.
