The Simic Combine are a guild that deals with the scientific modification of nature, but their modifications seem mostly focused on creatures. The gaming site LoadingReadyRun.com, however, has proof positive that these mad scientists are not just mad biologists but mad botanists as well. Here's the resource-building spell par excellence, Urban Evolution.
This is, in fact, exactly Divination plus Explore, right down to costing the combination of those cards' mana costs, and you get precisely what you pay for.
This design is what's called a Chinese-menu multicolor spell - one effect from color A, and one from color B. In this case, blue's "draw three cards" and green's "you may play an additional land this turn" mesh together extremely well. It is, effectively, a ramp deck's dream spell, and more than that, adds a small ramp strategy to any deck; by turn 5, a player who's out of lands in hand would welcome both a refill and the chance to get two more lands on the board. Mana accelerate into one of these, and with any luck, you'll find yourself both holding your finisher and having the mana to cast it with on turn 4 or earlier.
Five mana draw spells are a bit steep for a lot of Constructed decks, but the aforementioned ramp decks will like this one, as well as green-blue decks in Limited looking for a final push in the late game.
What do you think of this spell of terraforming for the Simic? Let me know in the comments.
