Anyone who knows Mark Rosewater, the head of Magic: the Gathering R&D, knows two things about him: He loves interacting with Magic fans on social media; and he loves the Ooze creature type. And he was able to combine those two passions in the social media preview of Gatecrash he rolled out for us today. On his question-and-answer Tumblr blog, he posted this photo of a green token-generator sorcery that will supply us with the ever-popular X/X green Ooze creature token.
Miming Slime is seemingly a new version of Slime Molding, the Return to Ravnica sorcery in the same color and rarity that scaled the token to the amount of mana paid. Rosewater himself said of the spell:
As a big fan of Johnny cards and a lover of oozes, I really like this card.
Of course, this card does have Johnny appeal, since it's meant to be used in combination with things like temporary pump spells and Woolly Razorback. But it's also something of a Timmy card, since it rewards you for playing big, explosive, expensive creatures. This feels like a lost member of the Soul's Grace/Soul's Fire/Soul's Might/Soul's Majesty cycle and will appeal to anyone who liked those cards.
What do you think of this variable-size token generator? Let me know in the comments.
