During rumor season, there are official spoilers, disseminated with the consent of Wizards of the Coast, and there are those that are... less so. Unofficial spoilers are risky business because of the high amount of fake cards that are produced in an attempt to dupe rumor hounds, but with some effort it's not hard to sniff out the real ones. Tonight, China-based MTGSalvation.com Rumor Mill user wolfganglittle has provided us with a completely legitimate-looking Simic card from an unknown source. Believe me, this card's art and creature types are so strange there's no way it could possibly be fake. Wave hello to Crab-Limb Shark (the current best guess at its name's translation).
If you don't read Chinese, here is its text in English:
Crab-Limb Shark GU
Creature - Fish Crab (Common)
Flash
Evolve
2/1
Yes, for all the weird mutation flavor this card has it's as simple and effective as that. Flash and evolve go excellently together; you can drop this guy during combat and use your creatures' evolve triggers as a +1/+1 counter-granting combat trick that will keep paying off from turn to turn. Unfortunately, that 2 power isn't going to boost any evolvers save for the very smallest ones - there certainly seem to be plenty of them with 0 and 1 power at base, though - but since our jawesomely crustaceous friend has evolve himself, he'll keep getting bigger and smashier as the turns go by, and for a very reasonable price given his power/toughness to converted mana cost ratio. He'll definitely be a powerhouse in Limited for Simic decks and might even see his fair share of Constructed play if green-blue aggro becomes a competitive deck come Gatecrash.
