Gas prices have been falling in the past several days. According to the American Automobile Association's (AAA) Fuel Guage Report , the average gallon of gas in the U.S. is 6 cents cheaper this week than it was last week. Some of the cheapest stations reporting in the Portland, OR area are Arco stations and Costco gas pumps. The lowest reported price per gallon for today, April 7, is 43.39 per gallon at several stations including the Arco on 15901 SW Jenkins Rd & SW 158th Ave in Beaverton and Costco at 15901 SW Jenkins Rd. On the other side of Portland, the lowest reported price per gallon is $3.43 at the Arco on E Burnside St & SE 181st Ave.
Many including AAA have forecast the cost of gasoline to drop overall in 2013 and it is finally starting to happen. There are many factors involved in the forecast drop in gas prices this year. Less people driving and newer cars being more conservative with gas are minor factors. Right now, the biggest reason for lower prices at the pumps is that the price of crude oil has dropped.
This may be a great year for summer travel. Typically, the price of gas will increase in the summer, due to more people driving and consuming more gas. This year though, forecasts speculate that the highest we will pay for gas this year was in February and it that gas prices should remain lower this year than last.
