If you have not yet had the chance to check out the Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill (formerly Firewater), you should try to include it in your plans sometime soon. It is an awesome place to party with its outdoor stage and state of the art sound and lighting systems. Don't let the cold weather keep you away - there are free standing heaters throughout the outdoor deck, and recently it has been somewhat enclosed. If the weather does happen to turn too severe, there is a smaller indoor stage where the show can be moved to if necessary.
There have been some great shows at the Gas Monkey recently featuring some of the top tribute bands in the area, and there are still more to come! The Blizzard of Ozz, a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, and Kill 'Em All, a Metallica tribute, rocked the house on January 25th. The following weekend, The KISS tribute band Destroyer and Notley Crue played to a packed house. Both shows were unbelievable, leaving the crowds feeling almost as if they had been to an actual performance of the bands that were being portrayed. If you would like to see videos of these bands playing on stage at the Gas Monkey, click on the highlighted text above, which are links to the videos, courtesy of local photographer Robert Reddy. Excellent photos of these bands are available for purchase on his website http://robertreddy.net/ .
This Saturday night, the 8th of February, the popular local band Red Leather will entertain you with covers of hits of the 80's, along with Strange Love, a Depeche Mode tribute. On February 20th, there will be somewhat of a change of pace at the Gas Monkey when The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash will take the stage. This band actually did their first recording at Johnny Cash's home in his living room. You will have a second chance to hear the music of Johnny Cash on March 29th, when Cach'd Out comes to the Monkey.
The highly popular Guns N ' Roses tribute, Guns 4 Roses, will take the stage at the Gas Monkey on February 21st. This is a show that you definitely do not want to miss - this band is amazing. Guns 4 Roses was selected as the World's Greatest Guns N' Roses Tribute Band by AXS TV, and their performance at the Roxy Theater in Hollywood on August 5th of last year was broadcast live on AXTV nationwide. They have performed all over the U.S., as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Central America. Opening the show on this night will be Walk This Way, a tribute to Aerosmith.
A few days later, on February 26th, another Guns N Roses tribute, Night Train, will show you how they do it. March 22nd the Gas Monkey will host the widely known 80's cover band, Metal Shop. This band is what the 80's was all about - hair metal, and always lots of fun. Tribute Nation will be playing the next night, March 23rd..
Tribute and cover bands are by no means the only kind of live music to be heard at The Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill. This venue hosts a wide variety of events, and should have something for everyone at one time or another. But, the tribute bands can be very entertaining, and some of them can come pretty close to the real thing. Honestly, at times I think that these bands sound actually better. Shows here are 18+. You might want to get there early, since the bands normally start around 8 p.m. All shows at this venue are also over reasonably early, so you don't have to worry about driving home with the crazy 2 a.m. bar-closing traffic. The venue, located at 10261 Technology Blvd. E in Dallas, has valet parking available, so you have no worries concerning parking either.
