Cleveland County Animal Control in Cleveland County, North Carolina will no longer have a gas chamber to euthanize pets that can't be placed in proper homes.

While this announcement that the gas chamber is no longer being used by Cleveland County Animal Control does make some happy, readers realize pets will continue to be euthanized when there are not enough homes to place the dogs and cats that are in the shelter.

Clifford's Army Rescue Extravaganza was held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at a local Tractor Supply Company where those attending the event were invited to 'whack' the gas chamber with a sledge hammer, hence the name 'Whack The Chamber Fundraiser.'

Those wanting to Whack The Chamber paid $5.00 for one 'whack' and $10.00 for 3 attempts to help destroy the gas chamber.

Several animal rescues were at the Whack The Chamber Fundraiser with pets available for adoption as well as items for sale to help raise fund for the group they were with.

One of the groups at the event, Sassy Paws Angel Rescue-places rescued animals in foster homes that have been approved to assist with the pets that will hopefully be placed permanent homes.

Endless Dreams Entertainment was at the event with DJ Skye providing music for the crowd. More details can be found about this company on their Facebook page.

Also sharing information about their group, Dogs Deserve Better offered information about their efforts to unchain dogs and readers can learn about this organization on Facebook.
