Gary Shirley's daughter talks to mother Amber Portwood from prison

Gary Shirley and his daughter Leah have been adjusting to life without Teen Mom star Amber Portwood who is currently serving a five-year sentence for violating the terms of her probation stemming from a prior arrest. While Gary recently revealed plans for Leah to visit Amber, he seems to have changed his mind, but he is allowing Leah to maintain her relationship with her mommy.

On January 15, Gary gave his Twitter followers an update on Amber and her communication with daughter Leah. "Just spoke with Amber on the phone," he wrote. "All is well she's doing @leah_leann got to say hi to her mommy that's all that matters." Gary is doing what he can to make sure that Leah doesn't forget her mommy while still keeping her sheltered from what he believes may not be good for her.

Many have recommended that he not bring her to prison at such a young age but after Dr. Drew told him that she should be seeing her mother, he seemed to agree. Gary is in a really tough position when it comes to parenting. He, of course, wants Leah to have a great life and be happy and have a healthy relationship with her mother, but any father is going to have reservations about taking their daughter to prison for any reason.

Whatever Gary decides, he should be commended for stepping up as a single did. He's doing his best, and that's all that can be expected of him.
