Democratic U.S. Rep. Gary Peters holds a six-point lead over his Republican challenger for the U.S. Senate, Terri Lynn Land.

Peters holds a 45%-39% edge over Land in the latest poll released by EPIC-MRA. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four points.

Peters, currently a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has carried a significant lead in the polls throughout most of the campaign. He's been helped with a large support base among women. Peters currently has a 49-34 lead among expected female voters, whereas Land holds a 45-40 edge among men.

Land has shrunk her gap in August and was three points worse off in the same poll in July. Despite losing some major backers at the start of August, she's kept up a large TV campaign thanks to a handful of out-of-state backers.

Among likely voters in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, Peters also held a 50-35 edge over his Republican challenger.

On Thursday, EPIC-MRA also released its latest poll for governor, saying that Democratic candidate Mark Schauer now holds a slim lead over incumbent, Rick Snyder.
