Jay Leno introduced Garth by stating, “I am a huge fan of Garth Brooks. He’s been a regular guest from the very beginning. I asked him to do one of my favorite songs tonight and he graciously consented. “

Before launching into the emotional song, Garth spoke about the impact Jay Leno has made in the entertainment industry.

“Hey pal, just before we get started here, I just wanted to say that I’m not speaking for me. I’m speaking for all of us. The dearest friend of entertainment, I am staring at right now,” Garth said.

He continued, “You never chose any special format over another; you never chose a network over another. If you are an entertainer that needed a friend and a window to people, you were always that. I love you with all my heart."

Garth has appeared many times since Jay’s inception in 1992; watch a highlight reel of Garth Brooks on “The Tonight Show” here.
