"Warlords of Draenor," the upcoming fifth expansion of Blizzard's "World of Warcraft," announced on Friday, has a long list of features that are being added to the game, ranging from updated character models to a whole new world to explore. One big feature that's generating a lot of buzz among World of Warcraft players is Garrisons. Garrisons will allow players to create and customize their own base of operations on Draenor.
Garrisons will be similar to the farm in "Mists of Pandaria," in that each player can have one and it will be "phased" so that only that character can, by default, enter their own Garrison. Unlike the farm, though, a player can allow other players in their party to enter their Garrison and can even trade Garrison-specific resources with other players.
Followers are non-player characters (NPCs) that will be attracted to a player's Garrison and can be used to gather resources and go on missions on the player's behalf. Some of these resources can be used in traditional crafting professions (like gathering ores for blacksmithing), while others are specific to the ongoing construction of the Garrison itself.
Garrisons can be customized in various ways, and players can choose one of several zones within Draenor in which to place their Garrison. Players can choose what types of buildings they want in their Garrisons as well as the specific layout. It will also be possible to change cosmetic aspects of the buildings.
Ashland, KY, resident David Grant is looking forward to Garrisons. "The garrisons are a welcome addition to the game," he says. "It's like 'Sim City' and 'Farmville' all rolled into one."
