Garrido, sex and cocaine?

A former friend, and bandmate of Philip Garrido has come out saying the alleged kidnapper of Jaycee Lee Dugard used cocaine in large amounts when involved in making his sexual fantasies come true.

Philip Garrido is accused of kidnapping and holding Jaycee Lee Dugard for 18 years sexually abusing her until one day she showed up in a police station to tell her horrifying tale.

Eddie Loebs used to be in a band with Garrido in the 70's, and stated Philip's drug use was out of control reported the Ski Channel. Garrido's sexual appetite was also out of control at the time, and involved "groupies," despite being married to Christine Murphy, his first wife, if you believe Loebs. Friend Eddie also said he wasn't a bit surprised at Garrido's arrest in the present case because he believed Philip was on his way to trouble even back then.

Cocaine, sex? No way! They don't go together. And if you believe that, there are some really good deals on some extra-fresh mountain oysters here for sale.

Cocaine, sex, and Garrido should not surprise anyone. Some were already thinking drugs were involved probably. Fact is, before cocaine places you in a full-Nelson grip as it enslaves you, the high is usually anything but terrible. Pour in sex, and you have a marriage made in ...? However, from the start, the use of any drug alters a reality best left intact, otherwise, in the matter of relationships, the factual basis for intimacy is contrived at best, and false.

With Garrido, the cocaine probably fueled an even greater sexual deviancy. He was a registered sex offender as it was during Jaycee's confinement in a shed in his backyard.  Yet most cocaine, and crack addicts who have been religiously abusing the drug for some time can rarely even have sex, if at all. And this is in reference to full-blown addicts, not week-enders and chippers.

With cocaine's ability to alter brain chemistry, the already emotionally challenged Garrido slipped further into the abyss of aberrant behavior. Was he using cocaine for the 18 years he practiced his sexual fantasies on Jaycee Dugard? There is always the possibility he had. But while he was on parole, and dropping random urine tests, that would have made it harder for him to continually abuse cocaine. There are ways around it, but you won't hear the particulars from me.

Are all cocaine users sexual deviants? Hardly. Are all cocaine users likely to digress into sexual deviancy? Hardly. Do cocaine addicts need help with their problems? Always, even if that assistance comes through the form of self-help agencies, literature, or sheer willpower.

So Philip Garrido's alleged use, abuse, or addiction to cocaine shouldn't surprise anyone. The fact that a registered sex offender, whether using cocaine or not, while on parole, and reporting to an agent on a regular basis, then completes that parole successfully, was able to get away with holding a hostage for 18 years is what should be surprising.
