Garlic ( an edible bulb made up of sections called cloves) has been used by humans for over 7000 years for culinary (as a flavoring and seasoning) and medicinal purposes. Rich in antioxidants, among some of garlic's medicinal benefits are a lowering of cholesterol, lowering of blood pressure and helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Now you can celebrate the many uses of this super food when you attend the 5th annual Cleveland Garlic Festival on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8.
Cleveland Garlic Festival Presented by the North Union Farmers' Market and taking place on the historic Shaker Square, the Cleveland Garlic Festival pays tribute to all things garlic and its many diverse uses.
Visitors will be able to sample and enjoy a wide variety of garlic-themed foods prepared by local chefs (garlic ice cream, anyone?) and partake of cooking demonstrations and wine tasting.
And you won't want to miss the celebrity Chef Grill-Off involving competitors vying for prizes in categories like "Grass-Fed Beef," (Saturday at 1 p.m.) 'Free Range Chicken" (Saturday at 3 p.m.) and" Pasture Raised Heirloom Pork" (Sunday at 2 p.m.). There will be free samplings.
