Funding for the new recreation center in Garland was approved in 1997, but development was delayed for 10 years before a suitable site became available.
The Harris Hollabaugh Recreation Center is so named after a long-time City Council Representative for Garland's District 6.
The new facility will become 1 of 6 recreation centers that makes up Garland's Park and Recreation system and serves it's residents by providing community and neighborhood programs that strengthen families.
At a projected cost of $3.1 million, the 7,000 square foot center will include classrooms, a fitness room, basketball goals and an outdoor, multi-purpose pavilion with a 50-car parking lot.
The center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010.
