There's an additional recall you need to know about before you make lunch today.
Garden Fresh Foods is expanding its recall of ready-to-eat chicken and ham products for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The USFA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday that it is recalling 6,694 pounds of products in addition to the 19,054 pounds of products that were recalled on September 25, 2013.
The foods included in this expanded recall were made between October 10 and October 15, 2013.
The recalled products have the establishment number “EST. 17256” or “Est. P-17256” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were distributed nationwide. To see a full list of the recalled products click here.
No illnesses have been reported yet. However, people who have purchased them should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness or death. Children, elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems are especially vulnerable. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
According to the CDC, symptoms of a Listeria infcetion include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
