Hemlock first-grade teacher Amy Sullivan (at right) and teacher’s aide Dara Perlow have been invited to present at the New York State Association for Computers and Technology Education (NYSCATE) Conference on March 3rd in Wappingers Falls, NY.
Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. Perlow will be presenting “Using iPads in the Early Childhood Classroom,” a workshop designed to teach participants how to create an “epub” (an electronic publication) and place it on the bookshelf in the iBook application.
In addition, various applications will be highlighted for their ability to support and reinforce skills taught within the early childhood curriculum. Mrs. Sullivan has been using iPads in her classroom to enhance instruction and learning since 2009. Along with Mrs. Perlow, the educators have presented similar workshops at the 2010 Long Island Technology Summit and at Hofstra University’s Technology Summit. As a result of their work at Hofstra, Hemlock’s educators will be guest lecturers for the Early Childhood Education Program at the University this spring.
Students in Mrs. Sullivan’s classroom working with iPods and iPads have been featured in local media as well as on Newsday’s online news website and in On Board, the New York State School Board Association’s newspaper.
