BANGOR-- Javier Garcia pitched a complete game four hitter to lead the Chitre, Herrera, Panama Senior League baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Kennett Square, Pa., in the Senior League World Series championship game at Mansfield Stadium.
Garcia allowed one unearned run. He struck out nine, walked one, while featuring a fastball in the low 90's.
Kennett Square took a lead when they took advantage of a Panama error during the fourth inning.
Joseph Zirolli scored the Kennett Square run after starting the rally with a double with one out.
Panama took a lead when they put two runs on the scoreboard during the top of the sixth inning. Edgardo Sandoval hit a run scoring single to spark the rally.
Garcia took care of the rest, including working around a Kennett Square threat in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Panama went 6-0 during the week at the World Series.
Garcia finished the tournament with two wins. He did not allow an earned run in 11 innings.
Garcia allowed only five hits and three walks. He had 16 strikeouts including the nine in the biggest game of them all.
Alex Pechin pitched a very solid game for Kennett Square. He allowed two hits on seven hits, and one walk in a complete game effort. Eric Takoushian had two hits and one RBI for the all stars from Pennsylvania.
