The wizard Gandalf showed up in New York’s central park recently, recreating the famous “You shall not pass!” scene from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The hilarious video, created by the jokesters at Improv Everywhere, brought Gandalf the Grey to Central Park's iconic Bow Bridge, unsuccessfully trying to prevent visitors from passing, says MSN on Oct. 17.
In the movie, Gandalf went toe to toe with a Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, an ancient foe that he battled through “time and space,” resulting in Gandalf being resurrected as Gandalf the White.
This time, the staff and sword bearing Gandalf faced off against Central Park tourists, who proved that their powers to dismiss could easily thwart Gandalf’s command to halt. Tourists went over the bridge; a number of them even rode boats under the bridge, despite the actor’s stern command to the contrary.
It appears only one couple stopped and respected the bearded wizard. No word on if they are still awaiting passage.
