Despite constantly being panned by the public, GameStop, Inc. still strives to remain the number one gaming retailer. The company's latest offer, announced today, Aug 9, via the official website, provides impatient gamers with the ability to purchase current generation versions of games like "Call of Duty: Ghosts" and "Madden NFL 14" and then trade them in towards the next generation version for $50. As Xbox One games will not increase in price, this will leave a $10 difference.
What benefit is there to this? Outside of gamers that must play every new title as it release, the offer will probably appeal to very few. In regards to the Xbox 360, saved games will not transfer to the Xbox One, forcing anyone looking to upgrade to start each game over from the beginning. The $10 price for a new game doesn't sound so bad, but when you consider the fact that it's a game you have been playing for quite some time already, you have to consider the cost effectiveness.
Included in the list of games that this applies to are "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag", "Fifa 14", and "Battlefield 4". To be eligible for the trade offer, purchasers must:
- Be a PowerUp Rewards member at time of the Xbox 360 game purchase
- Must purchase the eligible title at a GameStop location within 30 days of its release
- Bring in a copy of the in-store credit coupon that is received after the purchase of an eligible title
- Perform the trade before Jan 1, 2014
The Xbox One currently has no schedule release date, though a 2013 holiday release is scheduled.
