Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have announced 'Fable Legends' for Xbox One at its Gamescom showcase in Cologne. The game, announced by director David Eckelberry, is not Fable 4. However, it is a fully-fledged entry in the series, set 400 years before the events of the first Fable. It casts you as one of a number of heroes, cooperating and competing throughout the world of Albion in groups of four.
There is a twist: another player acting as the antagonist. They will decide how the enemies will react to the players, how many enemies will be unleashed, when bosses will appear, and when to trap the other players. While the other players will utilize the classic Fable game style with some twists, this new feature adds a brand new element to the successful franchise.
In a possibly controversial decision, Fable Legends makes use of the Xbox One's cloud capabilities. In other words, it is not playable offline. It's quest-based instead of open world: there's a hub city where you can perform activities like smithing and pie-making, but once you've selected a quest from the map (like in the first Fable) you're sent out into the world.
Fable Legends is an ambitious new take on the long standing franchise. With it's new five player system, and the use of cloud technology, it is sure to turn some heads as one of the notable Xbox One exclusive games.
