Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed a few big changes and updates to Xbox and the Xbox One skus, programs, and offerings today that are sure to have the gaming community and analysts lauding their decisions.
Games with Gold, the free game promotion that offers two titles per month to Xbox Live Gold subscribers will not only feature great games such as Dark Souls and Charlie Murder in June, but Spencer also revealed a third game to the lineup; Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will join the roster for June games.
Games with Gold will also spread it's reach to Xbox One beginning in June with Halo: Spartan Assault and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. The move to include two Xbox One titles is interesting as Sony's Playstation Plus offerings for next gen consoles have typically only been one game to this point.
Xbox One offerings withing Games with Gold will be subscription based, similar to Sony's Playstation Plus, in that if a Gold subscription were to lapse, the downloaded titles would no longer be available. Spencer also commented that a single Xbox Live Gold membership would suffice to download the offerings across both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
This news comes as an addition to the huge news that Microsoft would recant on it's statements that Kinect was integral to Xbox One, choosing to offer a Kinect-less sku for a discount of $100, priced at $399. The new sku is clearly aimed at those on the fence of next gen, as well to snatch up potential lost market share to Sony's Playstation 4, also at $399.
