Now the highly anticipated sequel, creatively titled “Dark Souls II,” to Namco Bandai's hit game is coming soon to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 with the PC version not so far behind. To celebrate, Namco Bandai held a launch event on March 6 for “Dark Souls II” at the Harlot nightclub in San Francisco.

Braving the cold San Francisco air and the maze of San Franciscan streets, video game journalists and video game fans came together at Harlot to enjoy drinks and play “Dark Souls II” on the various consoles around the nightclub.

Judging from the screams, groans, and occasional F-Bombs, “Dark Souls II” does not fall far from its predecessor as many players found cruel, unusual, and surprising ways to die in the video game.

And they would die a lot while playing “Dark Souls II.”

Fortunately, part of “Dark Souls II's” appeal lies in presenting a frustrating series of challenges that feels rewarding as you progress through each one. It's like trying sink a three-point shot in basketball while blindfolded and with people shooting you with paintball guns. You'll fail constantly and probably get annoyed. But once you make that shot, you'll have a heck of a story to tell.

Several of the staff behind “Dark Souls II” attended the launch event to show their support for the game. The “Dark Souls II” testing team occasionally offered the launch event attendees some advice on where to go, which was helpful given the game's vast world and equally vast difficulty.

While Namco Bandai's launch event was a fun way to get a hands-on look at “Dark Souls II,” the best way to fully explore this video game's vast world and new ways to die in the game is to pick up a copy and play the game yourself. “Dark Souls II” will be available March 11 on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The PC version comes out April 25.

Whichever version of "Dark Souls II" that you decide to get, remember to follow two pieces of sage advice to succeed through the game:

  1. Don't die.
  2. Kill the other guy.
