Gamecocks land Marcus Lattimore

It's official, Marcus Lattimore is a Carolina Gamecock.  Lattimore, the best highschool running back in the nation according to, committed yesterday in a neat ceremony at his church attended by nearly 600 people.

This commitment was not unexpected by most Gamecock fans.  Lattimore's plan to come to Carolina has been described as the worst kept secret in recruiting for the 2010 class.  Still, it's encouraging to see the Gamecocks follow through with Marcus and close the deal.

Lattimore will be the most highly recruited back  to pick Carolina since Demetrius Summers briefly came to town 7 years ago.  He will also be in the unfortunate position of being expected to fix Carolina's pathetic run game all by himself, kind of like Jarvis Giles was last year.  Remember, however, that no 4 and 5 star backfield can produce without a good offensive line, and right now the Gamecocks do not have a good offensive line.  So as exciting as the Marcus commitment is, I feel like pulling a highly rated offensive lineman like Morgan Moses would be the icing on this recruiting cake.
