Only an hour separates these schools yet both enter this game going in opposite directions. The Buckeyes are coming off an impressive 36-24 win over a scrappy Miami squad. On the other hand, Ohio is coming into the Horseshoe after a tough 20-13 loss to Toledo. The last time these two played, it was a close game. Will it be this time around?
Here are things to look for during the game:
- The best match-up might be Ohio State’s receivers against Ohio’s secondary. The Bobcats have a talented secondary that should be able to challenge Ohio State’s receivers.
- Ohio hasn’t been able to establish a passing game in their first two weeks. They’re averaging only 119 yards a game. Trying to get the passing game off the ground will be a tall order against the Buckeyes. If the Bobcats cannot establish a pass game, they’ll be one-sided and will make it easier for the Buckeye defense.
- Keep your eyes on Boo Jackson. The last time Jackson played the Buckeyes he passed for 83 yards and ran for another 55. He’s a dual-threat quarterback that could provide the Bobcats another running threat. Another fact to keep in mind, the last time he played Ohio State he threw three interceptions.
- Can the Buckeyes punch the ball into the end zone? Ohio State needs to improve its offensive efficiency and Saturday should provide them the avenue to do so.
- Will the Buckeyes clamp down on special teams? Their coverage teams have been less than stellar. The key is to stay in their lanes, break down and tackle. Simple I know, but if they can do these basics on a consistent basis, they’ll become a good unit.
- How will both approach the game attitude wise? In their first two games, the Buckeyes came out hitting and dictated the game. Ohio will not come to Columbus and be intimidated. They’ll bring their best game ready to finish the job they couldn’t in 2008.
What will happen?
Ohio is a good team that will play hard. That said this is a different Ohio State team. This group plays with a high level of intensity regardless of whom the opponent is. While Ohio may make some plays, the Buckeyes are too talented and should pull away with a comfortable win. Ohio State 42 Ohio 7
