'Game of Thrones' season four trailer finally debuts

The official season four trailer of Game of Thrones is finally here.

The trailer debuted Sunday, Jan. 12 before the premiere of HBO’s new crime drama True Detective.

The much anticipated trailer comes after HBO announced during the Television Critics Association press tour that the fan favorite fantasy drama will officially premiere season four on April 6.

This upcoming season will pick up right where season three left off, and will primarily finish George R.R. Martin’s adaptation of A Storm of Swords.

The trailer gives audiences a glimpse on what to expect this season and introduces the Martell’s, particularly Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne, also known as the Red Viper, who chillingly addresses to Tyrion "Tell your father I'm here, and tell him the Lannisters aren't the only ones who pay their debts."

The trailer also focuses on the impending Purple Wedding of King Joffrey to Margaery Tyrell, while Mance Rayder makes his way to the Wall which is being defended by Jon Snow. Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen’s war on the slaves moves on to the city of Meereen, Tyrion is imprisoned and handcuffed, Jaime tries on a gold hand prosthetic, and clips of the Battle of Castle Black were shown, setting up the darker tone and action expected to take place this season.

Game of Thrones returns April 6 on HBO.
