On June 17 Wetpaint Entertainment posted spoilers for the fifth season of "Game of Thrones," and the appearance of the popular book character Lady Stoneheart. The season four finale aired last week, and fans were hoping for a glimpse of the character who features heavily in the books. Lady Stoneheart is the undead version of Catelyn Stark, who gets revenge for her family by killing the Bolton, Frey and Lannister families.
Director Alex Graves, who directed the season four finale, revealed that Lady Stoneheart was never a planned part of the finale. She is reanimated by Beric Dondarrion and the Brotherhood with Banners who featured in season three. Many fans wondered if she would be hinted at during Dondarrion's storyline but she wasn't. Graves did praise actress Michelle Fairley, who portrays Catelyn Stark, although he couldn't justify bringing her back just to kill people.
In the aftermath of the Red Wedding, which killed Robb Stark and most of his army, Lady Stoneheart was an important character in the books. However, it seems that the character won't be appearing anytime soon and hasn't been factored into the show which was recently renewed for a fifth and sixth season. Each season is only ten episodes, so many plot points are left out of the series unless it's essential to the overall story.
It's possible that Lady Stoneheart will appear in an upcoming episode, since the series shows Beric Dondarrion in an earlier season and he is responsible for her. Show runners Dan Weiss and David Benioff are staying tight lipped about the popular character and whether or not she will appear. She is a very vengeful character, and the series likes to highlight pain and suffering as much as possible.
Entertainment Weekly posted on June 16 that the character of Lady Stoneheart first appeared in the epilogue of "A Storm of Swords," the third book in author George R.R. Martin's "A song of Ice and Fire" book series. Each season tends to cover one half of a book, so it's about time for Lady Stoneheart to appear. It wouldn't be the first time that the series left out a key character, since there isn't enough time in a one hour drama to include everyone.
The show runners believe rumors about the character appearing in season four got out of hand so fans began to expect it, but it's unlikely Lady Stoneheart will appear. Although the series doesThe fifth season of the series will begin filming next month in places like Morocco, Ireland, Spain, Iceland, and Malta. Several new characters will be introduced from the city of Dorne, which will also be shown as a new location. The ten episode series is expected to air in April 2015 on HBO.
