The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Wednesday (Aug. 28) that the actor will replace Ed Skrein as Daario Naharis, the Tyroshi captain serving Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), introduced to viewers last season.
The news was first revealed on Instagram by Huisman's trainer, who posted a photo of the Dutch actor working out with the caption:
1 more week w/ Michiel Huisman getting him ready to kick ass on 'Game of Thrones.' Proud of this guy's dedication; huge transformation from his 'Tremé' days.
Huisman, 32, played Sonny, a drug-addicted musician on "Treme," which returns for a fourth and final season on Dec. 1, and has a recurring role on ABC's "Nashville" as bad-boy music producer Liam McGuinnis.
The fourth season of the HBO series will reportedly be adapted from the second half of "A Storm of Swords," the third book in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.
Huisman joins fellow "GoT" newcomers Joseph Gatt, Mark Gatiss ("Sherlock"), and Indira Varma ("Rome"), who will play Ellaria Sand.
"Game of Thrones" Season 4 is slated to premiere in spring 2014.
