On Friday, September 27 Wetpaint Entertainment broke the news that the highly anticipated Royal Wedding from the upcoming fourth season of "Game of Thrones" has been filmed and author George R. R. Martin provide exclusive details about the event. The ten episode season will air next spring on HBO.
The Royal Wedding was announced at the end of season three and will show King Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell becoming wed after Joffrey declared Sansa Stark and unfit wife. The wedding is referred to as the Purple Wedding in the books, based on the color of the wine served at the event. Martin revealed that the scenes are "spectacular" and filming for the wedding has already been completed in Croatia.
It's possible the Purple Wedding will take place in the season three premiere or the second episode. The event seems to stay true to the books, being a much bigger affair than the Red Wedding with "77 courses and all of the royal kingdom" together at King's Landing. No word on if the wedding will end the same way it does in the books, but several cast members have confirmed that this season will include more killing than the last.
