‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 premiere breaks piracy record

While I’m not sure this record is something to be proud of, the Season 4 premiere of “Game of Thrones” has broken piracy records. This according to Torrent Freak on Wednesday, April 9. The new season premiered on Sunday, and fans were quick to download a copy online.

“With more than a million downloads in half a day, the premiere of ‘Game of Thrones’ fourth season has set a new piracy record. People from all over the world grabbed a copy,” the source says. “The unprecedented demand caused trouble for the HBO Go service, which crashed and was unreachable for several hours on end.

Which country takes the crown? Australia, with 11.6% of downloads; the states come in second with 9.3%, followed by the UK with 5.8%.

It was announced earlier this week that the popular fantasy drama series had been renewed for a fifth and sixth season.
