The "Game of Thrones" season 4, episode 8, epic battle between the Red Viper and The Mountain That Rides ends with a shocking finish. Fans finally witnessed the highly anticipated fight between these two strong characters. Oberyn Martell went into the unforgiving tirade with a vengeance for Ser Gregor Clegane. Lord knows he had a lot to get back at The Mountain for -- believing that he killed his sister, Elia, and all of her children years ago.

[Warning: Spoilers ahead]

As USA Today recapped from episode 8, Oberyn lost his life in a grotesque bloodbath. The graphic scene consisted of Clegane looking as if he lost the fight with Oberyn when he admitted to killing his sister, but it was smoke and mirrors at that point. Oberyn found himself losing fast when Clegane tripped him and gained ground. The Mountain crushed the Red Viper's skull after shouting that's how he killed Elia.

The scene isn't for the faint of heart and one of the most violent combat scenes in television. This "Game of Thrones" episode of season 4 was driven by motivation and vengeance.

"Game of Thrones" showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff told Entertainment Weekly the battle would be "one of the best -- if not the best -- combat scenes we’ve done so far" and they were right!

"Game of Thrones" season 4 airs Sunday nights on HBO at 9 p.m., ET.
