'Game of Thrones' renewed for seasons 5 and 6 by HBO

Fans of "Game of Thrones" have only started season four of the series on HBO, but the network is giving fans more already. On April 8, The Official Games of Thrones Facebook page revealed that the series had been renewed for seasons five and six by the cable network.

Why the quick renewal? The season four premiere scored the highest ratings for the series since it began. According to Spoiler TV, 6.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the season four premiere. This renewal doesn't come as a huge surprise. The people in charge of the series had already said before season four premiered that the series would likely end with season seven or eight.

With renewal through season six now set, the ratings just need to stay on level with current ratings, and fans should see more seasons picked up. This series has made fans tune in, and it blows away the competition on Sunday nights. It has taken over the night from "The Walking Dead" on AMC. That series wrapped the week before, and it aired in the same time slot.

What do you think? Are you excited for two more seasons of this HBO series?
