For the second year in a row, "Game of Thrones" has been named the most pirated show on television, according to CNN Entertainment on December 27.

The "Game of Thrones" Season 3 finale Red Wedding episode was downloaded 5.9 billion times, causing "Game of Thrones" to beat out "Breaking Bad" as the most downloaded TV show in 2013.

According to the piracy news site TorrentFreak, that same episode was only viewed by 5.4 million people when it aired on television on March 31, 2013.

This is the second year in a row that the HBO American fantasy drama series has beat out AMC's "Breaking Bad" as most pirated. "Breaking Bad" came in second with 4.2 million illegal downloads.

Followed by "Breaking Bad" was "The Walking Dead" with 3.6 million illegal downloads and "The Big Bang Theory" with 3.4 million downloads.

Even though piracy is illegal and considered an act of robbery, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes considered the "Game of Thrones" piracy "better than an Emmy" when compared to promotional value.

Internet piracy has been on the rise since the spread of file-sharing sites and has become a losing battle for Hollywood, but says "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan, piracy has helped to boost the shows brand awareness.
