Fans of the "Mother of Dragons" will be seeing Emilia Clarke back on their screens a lot sooner when "Game of Thrones" returns in just a few months, but announced today was the big reveal that the 26-year-old English actress, best known for her portrayal of Daenarys Targaryen in HBO's adaptation of George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy novel series, has landed herself the role of Sarah Connor in the "Terminator" reboot set to hit theaters in the summer of 2015. Deadline was first to deliver the news.
This was a hotly contested role and it came down to Clarke and Brie Larson. Both actresses tested for the producers at David Ellison’s Skydance and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna, and Paramount, which will release the film in July 2015.
Clarke’s casting follows just a few short days after the announcement was made that Jason Clarke (“Zero Dark Thirty”) is in negotiations to play the role of iconic “Terminator” character John Connor, Sarah Connor’s son. In other casting news, word has it that the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is slated to reprise his role in the new film.
We have no doubts here that Emilia Clarke will be wonderful in the role. If she’s shown us anything through “Game of Thrones” alone, Clarke is an actress that can certainly pull off the young and vulnerable side to Sarah Connor, as well as the fierce badass she later becomes.
