The return of “Game of Thrones” is less than three months away, and HBO is teasing its season premiere with another cryptic trailer. The new video does not show Westeros or the fates of any characters, instead focusing on abandoned cities and a three-eyed crow. Hm, weird, but it could all make sense in March when we see the first episode.
“Game of Thrones” will make its highly anticipated return on March 31, and fans have been craving any new information, even a glimpse of what the third season will have in store. For those who have read George R.R. Martin’s hit series, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” especially “A Storm of Swords,” know to expect some "monumental" (with a capital M) happenings, but HBO has yet to reveal anything about the third season.
In the latest trailer, “The Rains of Castamere,” as performed by The National, plays as fans are met by a three-eyed crow. That animal has plenty of significance, but it is not a spoiler with respect to the series' third season. Rather, HBO focuses on empty city-scapes and deserted streets. This trailer shows how the world of Westeros and “Game of Thrones” has oozed into our modern world, as well as the mainstream consciousness. “Their world returns to ours,” is the tagline, and the trailer ends with a reminder that the third season will premiere on March 31. It should prove to be very interesting.
The third season of “Game of Thrones” will not encapsulate the entire series of events in “A Storm of Swords,” instead focusing on the first half of the book. For fans, there are many theories, rumors, and outright speculations, as well as plenty of fantasy scenarios, about how the season will play out and how “Game of Thrones” will end.
The latest “Game of Thrones” trailer features no dragons or fan favorites, but it certainly whets the appetite for a highly anticipated return.
