‘Game of Thrones’ dethrones ‘The Sopranos’

There is a new king in town. Aceshowbiz.com and others are reporting that the fantasy/medieval drama series “Game of Thrones: has been crowned as the most watched program in HBO history.

‘The Sopranos’ rule and reign ended after the May 18 and June 1 episodes of “Thrones” aired, garnering 7.19 million and 7.17 million viewers, respectively. “Thrones” average 18.4 million viewers weekly whereas “Sopranos” attracted 18.2 million viewers.

Set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, “Thrones” has won numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and awards. The season 4 finale of “Game of Thrones” is set to air June 15 with a fifth and sixth season on order. Based on the bestselling fantasy series by George R.R. Martin, “Thrones” stars Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke.
