The game canceled after a robbery was Ohio University vs. Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night (Jan. 30). According to a report, Ohio University closed its campus and canceled afternoon classes as a search for an armed robber took place. Fearing for the potential safety of the students, it is reported that the university president decided that it was best to call in extra police officers and shut down the campus.
As a result of the campus getting locked down, a men's basketball game between Ohio and Eastern Michigan also had to be canceled. It was probably the right call, especially with the risk that an armed criminal could have been on campus. The two teams will probably make up the game since it is an important Mid-American Conference match-up. When that rescheduled game might take place has not been revealed at this time.
It seems that the entire event started when someone robbed a woman of just $5 at an apartment complex and then took off toward a campus building. Students were told to stay home, buildings were locked up, and of course the basketball game later that evening got canceled. The expectation is that things will be back to normal on Thursday (Jan. 31), but there hasn't been an update about whether the alleged criminal has been caught yet.
As for the news that the game was canceled after the robbery; the school may take some heat for the decision, but it was probably the right move with the information that they had at hand.
