Galley Beach -- Nantucket Restaurants

Galley Beach provides an unparalleled ocean view and superb food

Galley Beach Restaurant, at the end of Jefferson Ave provides some of the island's best food and a remarkable ocean view. Nearly all of the tables are on a large porch, with zippered plexiglass windows if the evening gets cool.  But even more remarkable is the excellent food Chef Scott Osif prepares. The names of the dishes on the menu do not begin to do justice to the delicious preparations themselves.

For example, the halibut of the day was prepared dusted with fennel, purple and yellow cauliflower, and a superb beurre blanc.

Appetizers included a glorious crab cake and a delicious squab:

Jumbo lump crab cake with tomato, cucmber and mint salad and Champagne Beurre Blanc. Roast squab breast with Mizuna, pistachio, apricot-inger chutney and foie gras

Other delicious main entrees included Meye Grass fed Skirt Steak with Potato gratin, baby asparagus and bone marrow toast.

Galley Beach has been serving food in one incarnation or another since the 1920s. The current restaurant was remodelled in 2008 and is now roofed over and well heated for the shoulder season. It is open from mid-May through Columbus Day

The restaurant is hard to recognize at first, but it is at the end of Jefferson Ave and adjacent to a private beach club. There does not appear to be a sign at present,  but it is on the left side of the road and to the right of the parking area.

This is one of the very best island restaurants and definitely worth a visit

Looks good, except for the purple cauliflower -- that kind of looks like a spleen.
