Galaxy Front is a 2D side-scrolling real-time strategy game that takes place on ten planets in a solar system. Players must defend their base from the aliens as they invade and wipe out their base on the planet. Once that base has been destroyed, it's on to the next planet to root out the alien infestation there.
At each planet, players have to recruit a fresh army to take care of the aliens. However, players will not have to mine for gold or take part in any other money-making scheme to purchase the warriors. As each second ticks away, money is added to the players' bank. Of course, the aliens do not have to recruit anyone, so they will start their march at the beginning of each level.
One advantage players do have over the aliens is a very large plasma cannon. A large gear on the left of the screen allows players to aim the cannon, and they can fire at will with a press of a button. Well, almost at will. The cannon does take some time in between shots to cool down.
The graphics are nothing spectacular, as it's mostly silhouette against a bright backdrop of the other planets in the solar system. However, since the warriors and aliens generally do not have that long of a life span, the graphics are not that important.
The gameplay is not that spectacular either, but it is as fun as any other RTS game. Since it is two-dimensional, players will most likely not feel as frantic as they do with typical 3D RTS games as the enemy will only come from one direction instead of all over the place. But these aliens are no pushovers, and it does take some solid strategy and good use of the upgrades to succeed, especially in the later levels.
As such, the 2D presentation and the easy difficulty setting make this a great game to introduce novices to the real-time strategy genre. For the hard-core strategists, the hard difficulty setting and some serious alien mayhem await.
