Gal Gadot lands role of Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's 'Batman vs. Superman' film

On Wednesday, December 4 Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Wonder Woman will appear in the upcoming "Batman vs. Superman" film and actress Gal Gadot has landed the role. Gadot, 28, is most well known for her role as Gisele in the "Fast and Furious" film franchise.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film will feature both Batman and Superman for the first time, and be a sequel to "Man of Steel," which was released last summer. The film takes the place of the long rumored movie about the Justice League, which fell apart in production back it's possible characters like the Flash could appear in future films. The new film is being written by David Goyer and will star Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman. The Warner Bros. film is expected to begin filming in early 2014 for a July 17, 2015 release.

For years a television pilot was in the works for Wonder Woman, based on the success of the previous series on the character which ran from 1975 to 1979. The series starred Lynda Carter as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and also spawned two television movies. In a statement, Synder called Wonder Woman "one of the most powerful female characters of all time" and that "Gal is an amazing actress"who is a good match for the role.

Gadot competed in the Miss Universe competition in 2004 as Miss Israel and is an established model. She also joined the Israeli army and worked as a sports trainer. Gadot is an avid motorcycle rider and has a two-year-old daughter named Alma with her husband, Israeli businessman Yaron Versano. Her other films include "Knight and Day" and "Date Night" as well as various television appearances.
