Exciting news for superhero movie fans in Fresno and all over the world today as, after months of rumors, it has been confirmed that Wonder Woman will indeed make an appearance in 2015's Batman vs. Superman. Not only that, but the actress chosen to play her has been revealed as well.
Gal Gadot, best known for her role as Gisele Harabo in The Fast and the Furious film series, as well as the winner of the Miss Israel 2004 pageant, will be filling the tall red boots of the amazon princess and last of DC's mighty trinity.
As reported by such news sources as SuperHeroHype.Com, director Zack Snyder issued the following statement about Gadot's casting:
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
Gadot will play her role alongside Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman in the upcoming sequel to this summer's blockbuster hit Man of Steel. Since Affleck's casting was first announced in August, the Internet reaction has been increasingly heated, so there is no telling yet how reception to this casting will play out.
For this examiner's part, it is a shame that Warner Bros. has chosen to finally give the character her big screen as the third wheel in a team-up story about Superman and Batman, instead of taking a chance and giving her her own solo film; perhaps the reception of Green Lantern has made the studio too afraid to take such risks.
On the other hand, it is still exciting to finally learn that this character will be making a long overdue appearance on the big screen, and it provides further evidence that DC and Warner Bros. have plans in store for a live action Justice League film down the line...Let's just hope that they have some sort of plan laid out and are not just rushing these films out there like a machine.
